C was in town for a visit and she was craving for some Fish and Chips and western food in general. Decided to try our luck and put in the relevant keywords in the Urbanspoon app on my phone and European Bier Cafe came up as the first result. And there, we made our way to EBC for dinner in the cold bristling wind…EBC has a pretty shop front and olden style interior. The menu was rather extensive for a pub/restaurant, of course their drink list was massive, ranging from beer on the taps to wines.
As for me, I ordered a 400g Rump Steak with Mashed Potato, Vegetables and Mushroom Sauce. I did not expect the steak to be of such massive size, I thought it would just be thick like how a rump steak should be served (not flat like a piece of leftover meat grabbed off the butchers?). When the waiter delivered the steak to me, he said “Good Luck to finishing all that!” @.@ The steak was bland, even with the mushroom sauce on it, one could not taste the sweetness that a good piece of meat would deliver. The mashed potato was another disappointment, it was the right texture but the flavour was not there at all! I had to spread all of my mushroom sauce onto the mash to “enjoy” it. With the price I paid, I must say that it was a total rip off! Lion Hotel at Melbourne Central was able to do a better job than ECB in my honest opinion. Not only that, they have this $10 steak special on Mondays and Wednesdays where one could indulge in some quality meat at a seriously low price!
ECB has a nice ambience for a drink or two with your mates and some finger food after a long day at work. As for dinner and proper food, I would suggest that you are better off somewhere else besides from the Chicken Buger?
