Ramen Ya has been on the top of my list all this time while I search high and low for some good old authentic Japanese ramen. To my amazement this year, while walking along Lonsdale Street, I came across Kokoro Ramen. It is a swanky new Japanese ramen store with an interesting range and variety of ramen and soup bases (just like how they do it in Japan!). With this new kid on the block, I reckon the older establishments are having a run for their money.KR features a simple and yet comfy layout. The menu was rather confusing when you first lay your eyes on it: with the different soup bases labelings, providing various flavours catering to individual taste buds. We started off the night with a mug of Orion tap beer (apparently the only one in town and fresh from the tap) and gyoza. The gyoza were tasty and the skin was just the right thickness.
I wanted to be adventurous and ordered one of their popular ramens: Butter and Corn. It was an indeed special taste and it was slightly spicy, thus tickling the palate! The egg was done the right way, not overly cooked and the yolk was still soft and moist. My noodles were slightly thinner than J’s. This reminded me of Taro Ramen back in Brisbane where the owner had different types of noddles for the assortment of soup bases. Overall, I love this innovative flavour.
KR is definitely a place that I will revisit, with so many other combinations to try! The service was fast and efficient. On a side note, you are always free to top up your noodles at a little cost. So for those who have a bigger appetite, remember not to finish all the soup on the first round, top it up with more noodles and enjoy your ramen to the max! 😀
