Decided to ‘resurrect’ my blog this month. What is more appropriate than doing a review on my super awesome birthday lunch at La Pétanque (Pétanque came from the French name for Bocce, an iconic game of boules played everywhere in Provence), Mornington Peninsula. LP is an one hatted French restaurant, using the freshest local produce and traditional french techniques. It is set on the first ever vineyard planted on the Mornington Peninsula, panoramic view, rustic house. Simply perfect!

Upon arrival, we were greeted by friendly staff and shown to our seats promptly. Love the space and layout!

First up, homemade sourdough that was fluffy and dense.

Then, complimentary starter with cucumber. Light and was doing a little tango in my mouth, definitely a palate cleanser to prepare us for the more exciting things to come!

What to order I asked myself? At a french restaurant, always go for the duck: Aylesbury Duck Breast ~ braised witlof + onion poppy seeds soubise + orange grand marnier foam + star anise jus. Lovely presentation, meat was pink, great balance of flavours and textures. The best duck dish I had so far in my opinion. Most importantly, there’s no hair on the skin (thankfully!).

Next up, Flinders Island Rack of Lamb ~ silver beet + celeriac purée + sun dried tomato + garlic confit + thyme cooking jus. Rich flavours, pink and juicy meat, yummylicious.

Last main of the day, Otway Pork Belly ~ caramelized pork belly + seared atlantic scallop + sauerkraut + gingerbeer glaze + apple gel. Crispy crackling, tender meat, perfectly cooked scallops, nom!

Time for desserts! Sweet sweet tooth we have, first up, Berries ~ red hill berries + lemon meringue + lavender dust + red wine marmalade + olive oil icecream. Too pretty to eat I must say! Very light, clean and guilt free dessert.

Next, White Peach ~ white peach semifredo + white chocolate + lemongrass + mint gel + macademia nuts crumble. Loved the combination of textures and breaking the semifredo like kinder surprise! 😀

Lastly, Valrhona Chocolate Guanaja 70% Cacao for the birthday girl ~ chocolate panna cotta + rosewater cream + almond crumble + spices icecream. Fantastic consistency of the panna cotta; valrhona chocolate, what could go wrong? 😛 NOM!

All in all, a wonderful experience at LP. Will definitely return to try their seasonally changed menu! Can’t wait! 😛
