REVIEW

Walking along Swanston Street, you will not miss Claypot King with its resounding signage and humongous pictures of several of their signature claypot rice. I always wanted to give it a try but do not seem to be able to find the right time to do so. On a work day afternoon, we were walking around the city trying to find a place to go for lunch and I remembered about CK. We were directed to our seats promptly and given the menu thereafter. I am quite disappointed that I had to sit in front of the kitchen as they were doing all the cooking and the smell was pungent. I did not want myself nor my clothes to smell bad! T_T I asked for a change of seat and was brought to another seat,  THANKFULLY.

J ordered the Black Pepper Beef claypot rice which he adores! He said it was juicy and tender. With a mix of vegetables and black pepper gravy, it gave a great flavour.

I got myself the Sausage Claypot Rice which I have been craving. I love those sausages but the ones in Australia are exceptionally salty! The rice was just plain and did not have the crunchiness that a claypot rice should have. Somewhat a bad first experience for one of my favourite claypot rice. If anyone has any suggestions as to where to have better ones in Melbourne, please let me know. The serving was huge but if it could be balanced with a greater amount of vegetables, it would have been better!

I also added my favourite Hakau in the lunch. This was my second time trying out Hakau in restaurants. They were fresher, juicer and chewy as compared to Dragon Boat Palace.

Just a normal lunch within the budget, won’t really return for more. However, if you are feeling heaty or having ulcers all the time, you should try their homemade Herbal Pudding which is really helpful and effective. 🙂
