REVIEW

Loyal readers know that I love my Japanese food and to date, Shoya on Market Lane is the only restaurant in Melbourne that ticked all my boxes. It might be a bit pricey but it’s definitely a goodie. That’s right, just like finding Mr Right, all the boxes have to be checked to be added on my little “wall of fame”. 😀

So, Kenzan, it has been on my “to try” list since I moved down from Brisbane four years ago but just never get the chance/occasion to go there. K was established all the way back in 1981 (older than me!) and has a typical old-school Japanese restaurant layout with sushi bar, tatami private rooms and the standard dining area. Decided to get a table at the sushi bar, where I got to see the chef prepare my orders in front of me. Oh oh, waitresses were dressed up in kimono (so cute!) and were very friendly. Continue reading

Mister Jennings has been on my “to hit” list for ages and when’s a better occasion than your truly’s belated birthday celebration? I must say, MJ picked a rather interesting location to set up shop, Bridge Road in Richmond has long been considered one of the “dead ends” and gets really quiet at night. But chef and owner, Ryan Flaherty, has nothing to fear with an impressive CV ~ having worked at The Fat Duck in the UK; El Bulli and the Arzak laboratory in Spain and most recently with Scott Pickett at Estelle in Northcote, Melbourne. I absolutely loved and enjoyed my experience at Estelle, so finding time to meet MJ is a must. 🙂 Continue reading

Apologies for the super long hiatus but don’t you worry, I am still eating my way around Melbourne and everywhere I go. 😀 Follow me on Instagram ~ @lydiapebbles_foodcautious to find out what you have been missing out!

Decided to ‘resurrect’ my blog this month. What is more appropriate than doing a review on my super awesome birthday lunch at La Pétanque (Pétanque came from the French name for Bocce, an iconic game of boules played everywhere in Provence), Mornington Peninsula. LP is an one hatted French restaurant, using the freshest local produce and traditional french techniques. It is set on the first ever vineyard planted on the Mornington Peninsula, panoramic view, rustic house. Simply perfect! Continue reading

What should you do on a bright and sunny spring weekend? Of course, you kick start the day with a good ol’ brunch! There’s a new kid on the scene in Richmond, Niche on Bridge.

We were greeted by friendly staff at the door and shown to a table swiftly. The menu was extensive and  we were spoilt for choice. Not to forget, they serve their breakfast menu until 5pm, so for those late risers, you are in for a treat. Continue reading

Those who have been to the National Gallery of Victoria, in short, NGV, would know that it takes quite some time to go through the vast collections of exhibits. What is best to do when you want to take a break and rest your feet? Some afternoon tea would be great, did I hear an unanimous yes?!

German food is kind of something that I rarely have. So flipping through the entertainment book, we realised that we have a voucher for Hofbrauhaus yet to be utilised!

H is situated opposite of Shoya and Flowerdrum on Market Lane. They are currently open for business in the new wing while renovation work is underway on the old site which is just next door! Once entering the main door, you could hear the lively music playing upstairs while the bar operates on the lower level. Continue reading

REVIEW

Ramen Ya has been on the top of my list all this time while I search high and low for some good old authentic Japanese ramen. To my amazement this year, while walking along Lonsdale Street, I came across Kokoro Ramen. It is a swanky new Japanese ramen store with an interesting range and variety of ramen and soup bases (just like how they do it in Japan!). With this new kid on the block, I reckon the older establishments are having a run for their money. Continue reading
